Macramé - it’s knot going away! After falling out of fashion in the 1980s, macramé is hip again! And best of all, you can repurpose things you have lying around at home to do it - nylon, cotton ropes, yarns and cords all work a treat.
Did you know?
One of the earliest recorded uses of macramé-style knots as decoration appeared in the carvings of the Babylonians and Assyrians of ancient Mesopotamia.
And, some of the most prolific and influential groups of people to help spread macramé far and wide were old world sailors, who, while at sea often for months at a time, used their knowledge of knotting to make artifacts such as belts and hammocks to sell on their travels, including in places as far away as China.
